Meet the Tutors


Patti Andrews
Acct 210

My name is Patricia Andrews and I am a Lake Norden, South Dakota native.  I am a 2004 graduate of Hamlin High School and am currently a Senior Sociology major with a minor in Spanish.  I will graduate in December of 2008.  I am in my fourth semester of tutoring with the Wintrode Program.  This semester I tutor Accounting 210 and 211, previously I also tutored Spanish 101 and 102. 

I have one brother who is married and has two beautiful children, Joseph who is 4 and Elizabeth who is 1.  I love to spoil and spend time with them.

Fun Fact:  I am an avid traveler and always take a few BIG trips during the year, in 2008 I will visit Norway in May, and then Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, and The Czech Republic in August.

Olivia Boll

I am a sophomore Biology major with a pre-optometry specialization.  I started tutoring during the Fall 2007 semester, and I tutor Biology.  I am also a member of the SDSU rodeo team.  I enjoy tutoring because I want to help other students while keeping up with my studies at the same time. My hobbies are intramural softball, collegiate rodeo, running, riding horses, and teaching Sunday school.

Fun Fact:  I am a two-time High School Rodeo Queen.


Mikaela Dierks
Biol 151, 221, 325

Hello, my name is Mikaela Dierks and I am a Physiology tutor.  This is my fourth semester tutoring and I love it!  I am a senior from Worthington, Minnesota and am majoring in Biology and Spanish.  I am not totally sure what I want to do when I grow up, but I will figure it out!  In my spare time I like to play volleyball, cards or any type of game, I enjoy kickboxing, running and cooking (although I am not a very good one!).  Next year I hope to study abroad in South/Central America to learn the Spanish language and culture.

Fun Fact: 
This summer I went on a Mission Trip out to Idaho and while I was there I went rock climbing, zip-lining, star gazing and swimming in a 45 degree river, BRRR!  It maybe wasn't the best idea to go swimming, as I got swimmer's ear in both ears and a bacterial infection in my throat!  Other than that it was a blast!


Kyle Dvoracek
Chem 106, 108

My name is Kyle Dvoracek. I am a Senior Pharmacy Major and am in my third semester of tutoring. Chemistry is my favorite subject, especially Organic Chemistry.  When I'm not tutoring or learning about drugs, I play drumset for the theater department and have performed in all of the musicals for SDSU since my freshman year.  I also used to teach drum lessons and drumlines all around the region.  I'm a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at SDSU, where I teach the new member classes.

Fun Fact:  I recently performed in the combo for the musical Cabaret in which I was required to be in complete drag.


Adam Fergen

Hi my name is Adam Fergen and I'm a junior at SDSU majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I grew up on a farm in Dimock, SD which is south of Mitchell. I enjoy doing anything active like playing sports, hunting, fishing, and working out. became a physics tutor because I like learning, like physics, and am good at explaining difficult concepts.

Fun Fact:  One interesting fact about me is that I'm hopefully going to Minnesota this summer for an internship.

Scott Finnesand

My name is Scott Finnesand. I am from Sisseton, SD.  I am currently in my 6th semester at SDSU.  My major is civil engineering.  I am looking forward to graduating and possibly graduate school.

Fun Fact:  Some of the things I enjoy in my free time are playing sports (football, basketball, softball), watching movies, and hanging out with friends and family.

Emily Jepsen

My name is Emily Jepsen and I'm originally from Gayville, SD. I'm a senior Chemistry Education major. I plan to teach high school Chemistry and Biology after graduating. My favorite thing about tutoring is helping students to more deeply understand chemistry and telling them interesting things about chemistry.

I am a senior majoring in Biology and Chemistry, and am originally from Lakefield, MN.  This is my 5th semester tutoring Chem 112 and 114.

Fun Fact:  I have been actively involved with the SDSU Statesmen throughout my time at SDSU.

Casey Mortensen

I am a sophomore Biology/Pre-Med major.  I tutor Biology 101 and 103.  I started tutoring during the Fall 2007 semester.  After I graduate I plan on pursuing a career as an OB/GYN physician.

Mark Raykowski

I am from St. Paul, MN and am in my fourth semester of nursing. I am looking to move on to grad school in anesthetics. Hobbies and fun include playing various instruments, hockey, and traveling.

Fun Fact: I once used a yellow highlighter as a drum stick so much that it exploded across my computer screen and pants.


Joe Rose
Chem 106, 112

My name is Joe Rose.   I am a junior in the Pharmacy program from Owatonna, MN.  This is my 3rd semester tutoring.  I mainly tutor Chem 106, but also work with many other chemistry courses.  I play bass clarinet in symphonic  band and I am active in Kappa Psi and APhA-ASP.  I was also in the PRIDE marching band and was an anatomy intern.  I love all sports, especially disc golf and ultimate, and I am obsessed with the New York Jets.  I am also left handed!

Fun Fact:  I can solve a Rubik’s Cube in 3 minutes.

Elise In't Veld

I am a Biology/Pre-Medicine major with a Chemistry major.  I am planning on going to medical school and going into ophthalmology (eye surgery).  I've been involved as both an anatomy intern and the leader of the dissection team.

Fun Fact:  Something unique about me is the fact that I can wiggle my eyeballs.


Maria Tracy

Hey! My name is Maria Tracy. I'm a sophomore from Pierre, SD, and this is my second semester of tutoring. I'm a nutritional science major hoping to get into medical school or dental school (not sure which one I want to do yet). I love to play sports, workout, watch movies, and travel. I'm even going to Costa Rica this summer for 4 weeks!!

Brandon Wegehaupt Brandon Wegehaupt

My name is Brandon Wegehaupt from Ethan, SD.  I currently am in my 5th year at South Dakota State University pursuing a second degree in Biology.  In May of '07 I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, and currently am finishing required classes to apply to Physician's Assistant grad schools.  I enjoy studying the dynamics of the human body, and improving my knowledge in the field of medicine.  Some of my hobbies include the outdoors, music, and playing almost any sport.

Fun Fact:  I lead sing for the alternative rock band "Shirts of Plenty".  We are a cover band from Ethan, SD.


Emily Tschetter

Hi! I'm Emily Tschetter, originally from Brookings and a Biology/Pre-Dentistry major while also studying LOTS of chemistry and Spanish. I hope to go to dental school for orthodontia or oral surgery and eventually have a private practice and travel to underdeveloped countries and provide them with dental care.

I keep myself busy with competing for the SDSU Women's Swimming and Diving team, participating in the Spanish Club, the Honors College and its student organization, Golden Key Honour Society, and I love to travel.

Fun Fact:  A couple fun/interesting facts about myself are (1) that I traveled to South Africa this summer to volunteer in AIDS clinics for a few weeks and (2) I just learned how to play dominoes.

My name is Catherine Grandorff, and I’m in my third year at SDSU studying English and Spanish, emphasizing in literature.  I love learning about world cultures through books, television, and travel. 

Fun Fact:  I spent last summer in Spain and look forward to spending next summer in Latin America.

My name is Tony Hartman. I am an Economics major and will graduate in May of 2009.  I grew up in Wabasso, MN. I currently have a business internship at Daktronics.  I tutor Accounting 211 and a variety of Econ courses.  My hobbies are sports, fishing and working out.

Paul Kappel

My name is Paul Kappel. I am a senior at SDSU with a biology major and a chemistry minor.  After graduating from SDSU, I plan to attend physical therapy school.  I enjoy playing sports like basketball, golf, and football.
 
Fun Fact: I am a huge Packers fan.


Brittany Kerr Brittany Kerr

My name is Brittany Kerr. I grew up on a farm outside of Highmore, SD. I am a Pre-Physician Assistant/Liberal Studies major, with minors in Biology and Health Science. I have served as an Anatomy Intern and enjoy helping other people. Because of this, I will be graduating from SDSU a year early, so I can become a PA one year sooner! I am looking forward to tutoring and helping other students understand the interesting world of Physiology. 

FUN FACT: I have two sisters, one is 5 years older and the other is 5 years younger than me, and all of our middle name's rhyme with our dad's middle name.

Matt Larson Matt Larson

My name is Matt Larson and I am from Paynesville, Minnesota.  I am a 2006 graduate from New London-Spicer High School.  I am a junior biology major with pre-optometry specialization.  I will tutor Organic Chemistry and Microbiology, and am also a lab intern for the General Microbiology laboratory.  When I’m not studying, I play Mariokart Wii and compete on funtrivia.com. 

Fun Facts:

  1. I participated in State knowledge bowl my senior year of high school.

  2. I had Lasik surgery recently.  It rocks!

  3. I broke my nose in the 8th grade.  It leans slightly to the left.

My name is Sam Miller. I am a Senior Economics Major in the accelerated Masters program.  I am the recruitment chair and social chair in Sigma Phi Epsilon.  I enjoy skiing, baseball, and football in my free time.


Sara Pepper Sara Pepper
Chem 108

Hi!  My name is Sara Pepper and I am a biology for pre-med major entering my third year at State.  By the time I graduate, I will also have chemistry and Spanish minors.  I am from small town, Geddes, South Dakota, about 180 miles from here, where I graduated with 12 others.  I am involved in many activities on and off campus which keep me busy.  Right now, any spare time I have is spent looking into medical schools and trying to decide which will be a good fit for me.  I am hoping to one day become a pediatrician because I enjoy working with kids and I think it would be very rewarding.  For now, I am content with gaining the knowledge that I will need in the future.  This is my first semester tutoring through this program. I will be working with chemistry 108 and I am excited to meet you!
 
Fun Fact:  My high school class (Class of 2006!) was the second to last class to ever graduate from Geddes High School.  (In the fall of 2007, the school consolidated.)


Charlie Pugsley Charlie Pugsley

I am Charlie Pugsley.  I am from Custer, SD and a graduate from St. Thomas More High School.  I am a junior in my first semester of Nursing School at SDSU.  My hobbies are to hunt, fish, play sports, and read.  I have had an amazing three years here so far and am glad to be a part of this place.

Fun Fact: I have lived my whole life in Custer State Park.  Yes I actually have buffalo in my backyard.

My name is Isaac Randall, and I was born and raised on a farm outside of Dell Rapids, South Dakota. I am a junior at State majoring in Dairy Manufacturing. I enjoy  being  outdoors, reading, seeing my family, and just about anything else that’s exciting! When I’m not studying, I am involved with campus groups, such as Campus Crusade for Christ.

Fun Fact: My dad was born in 1948, and he and his twin sister set the record for biggest twins in the nation at the time, weighing in at over 16 pounds.

My name is Aaron Rumpca. I am a senior Biology/Pre-dental student with a  chemistry minor.  My hometown is Pierre, SD where I enjoy wakeboarding, fishing, hunting, and mountain biking.  Currently I am teaching as an UGTA for Anatomy.  

Fun Fact: This summer I watched Jack Johnson play at the top of Red Rocks.

Megan Skillman Megan Skillman

I am a Junior Spanish Education major from Rapid City, SD, and I plan on being a high school Spanish teacher in the not-so-far away future.  I love to travel, and I spent this past summer studying in Spain and can't wait to go back to visit.  I'm also a Learning Community Coordinator for the Spanish floor this year in Waneta Hall. So if you want to do some fun Spanish activities or just speak Spanish, come find me!
