Interdisciplinary Studies Degree
The Interdisciplinary Studies major is designed for students who have
a personal and/or professional goal that cannot be met by an
established major on campus. In addition to completing the
core requirements and other
graduation requirements of the
University, the student must complete 40 credits of courses
which accomplish the attainment of a uniquely defined goal.
An
Interdisciplinary
Studies
major
allows students to
design
a unique
“plan of study” to fit their personal and/or professional
goals. The
major
provides students a way to achieve their educational goal
when no one particular
academic program
is best suited for their
needs.
For instance, a student who is interested in owning their
own business
may pursue coursework from consumer affairs entrepreneurial
studies, leadership, and communications.
The “plan
of study” is a minimum of 40 credits
mutually
agreed upon by the student and the academic advisor.
24 credits of the plan must be upper level
(300-400) courses.
The plan
consists of courses selected from two or more discipline
areas and
may
include
both lower and upper division courses
but not courses that are also being used to satisfy the
general education core.
Students must be in Interdisciplinary Studies
for at least two terms prior to graduation and must complete
a minimum of 24 credits after being admitted to the
program. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.2 is
required for admission into Interdisciplinary Studies.
